Food, Sex & Molecules

Production of sex hormones requires proper nutrient balance as well as good mitochondrial functioning (the energy powerhouse of the cells). When I take a client's sexual history I cover a wide range of topics including but not limited to their family dynamics while growing up, attachment styles, cultural values, sex education as well as sexual health practices. I also cover questions around nutrition, exercise, and sleeping habits.

Progesterones, Androgens (DHEA, Testosterone, DHT) and Estrogens (estrone, estradiol, estriol) are all derived from the Cholesterol molecule. As such, if I'm working with a client who is complaining of low desire or sexual dysfunction of any kind, I pay close attention to whether they follow a low-fat and/or high carb diet. High carb diets can lead to inflammation and metabolic disturbances, while eliminating all fats from one’s diet can result in lower production of sex hormones which in turn may result in:

  • Low libido

  • Vaginal dryness

  • Vaginal atrophy

  • Pain during sex

  • Erectile dysfunction

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Tiredness or low energy

  • Depression

  • Insomnia

  • Low Vitamin D

  • And endocrine disorders in extreme cases

Because everyone's medical and sexual history is unique, there is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Our sexuality is a combination of bio-psycho-social factors which need to be integrated holistically. To learn more about my work schedule a free introductory call.
